3D Analysis

Have you ever wondered how some Tour players have had such successful careers with such unorthodox golf swings, fortunately, with the aid of 3-d motion capture systems, it’s possible to identify the true measurement of a good golf swing.

The answer is not how close your swing looks to Tour Players on a video camera, the answer is how efficient your swing measures compared to the best players in the world.

In other words, there are a lot of ugly golf swings on the Professional Golf Tour, but they all seem to get the job done. The question you should be asking yourself is how can I make my golf swing get the job done?

The data from 3-d motion analysis shows you how golfers generate speed and transfer this speed or energy through their body. Tour Players have a certain sequence or signature of how they get this speed to the club head (which is the true Heart of the swing).

The amazing thing is that all great ball strikers have a similar sequence of generating speed and transferring speed through their body.

If you compare Tour Players sequence they will look similar, This might seem a bold statement as there is an obvious difference on a video camera - which probably says more about the efficiency or should I say inefficiency of video.

All great ball strikers begin by generating speed from their lower body and transferring this speed through their torso, into their arms, and then into the club. What style they use to complete this signature is completely unique to each player.

So the key points to know about the sequence are:

1) There is an similar sequence of energy generation for all great ball strikers. This sequence occurs during the downswing and is 1, lower body, 2, torso, 3, arms and then the club.

2) Each segment of the body builds on the previous segment, increasing speed up the chain. (lower body is less than torso, which is less than arm, which is less than club).

3) Each segment of the chain slows down once the next segment begins to accelerate.

4) Unorthodox styles may have no effect on your ability to generate a good sequence. In other words, Jordon Speith and Dustin Johnson can have a similar sequence. With that said, there are three things that have been shown to create efficiency breakdowns:

1) Improper swing mechanics.- not the superficial look but the nuts and bolts that really count.
2) Physical limitations
3) Ill fitting equipment.

Get a true understanding of the really important areas of your swing rather than the superficial and irrelevant areas that video directs your attention 3d motion capture can be used as an overall scan or an effective and accurate way to discover:- Where you are leaking power

  • Through your pivot

  • Kinematic sequence

  • Mid hand and centres of gravity trace (The Heart of the swing)

  • And various areas including elbow bend, torso rotation, shoulder and hip movement, club along with other body part paths and angles as well as functional swing plane and many more so you can now compare the Heart and important key areas of your swing with TourPlayer’s to truly see and understand where to make effective improvements.
